Barbarian's "leap" skill pretty much just defeated your "most due to the technology blizzard was using at the time." Barbarian still has it, I don't see a need to jump in diablo...every class has moves like it. Wizard gets teleport, barb gets leap again, demon hunter gets some fancy leap-type thingie...idk what monk and WD get....but either way it's ALWAYS been possible...they just chose to make it a skill|||Gonna have to disagree. Barbarian leap is nothing more than an animation giving the appearance of jumping.

Ok, obviously something not a part of diablo 2, but I think that is most due to the technology blizzard was using at the time. I believe adding Z movement to Diablo 3 would overall improve them game giving levels more dimension overall making the game more immersive.
I'm not simply talking about appearance of jumping.
I'm talking about actual z axis movement and level design where players can jump from more elevated areas to lower elevated areas and jump across gaps/ditches. Being able to run up a set of stairs then being able to jump back down.|||nah -- wont work for one reason... you would have someone that should not be playing HC fall down a flight of stairs..die and then QQ for days about it! lol|||That reminds me. We can play Barbarian Leapfrog.|||

But leap and teleport did let you jump to elevated areas and across gaps.
It seems like giving players a normal jump would add unnecessary complexity to the game. The variety of skills will give plenty of strategy to the gameplay. What would jumping add to that?|||I do like jumping in MMOs and other WoW-alike games.
But jumping in Diablo ? come on, that's just silly. There is bunch of skills which allows you to "jump'.
And that's it, we do not need actual jumping button. imo.|||

Leap did just that. Just because it didn't have a Z axis doesn't mean it wasn't jumping. The game had actual elevations, just not elevation with Z, but by graphical design. Leap allowed you to jump up and over things just like you're asking for.
Take a look at Mario RPG, a completely 2D game, designed to appear 3D, had elevations AND jumping just like you're asking for, and that was released in 1996 for the SNES.|||
