Graveyard

Q u o t e:
Original Post : Grug
Thread : Valhalla
What if Hardcore Characters that get killed are barred

this made an idea pop in my head, although the thread wasn't really about this but it gave me the ida just from that line.
what if there was an "in game" graveyard like in the first town that had graves of fallen HC characters, and the graves would list name, class, gender, and level killed at and maybe even lifespan.
eg
TheDevilsHand
Male Barbarian
Level - 28
July 11 2012 - Aug 1 2012

and if it would be to hard to put it "in game" they should at least give a "graveyard" menu option like a list with the same info i mentioned of yours and others dead HC characters.|||

hehe, thumbs up, i hope theyll do something other than me keeping ghosts in my character selection screen.
|||Would be pretty cool. It all depends on how they handle character selection on D3. I'm assuming it'll look just like SC2... You login to your Battle.net Account and then it asks you to confirm the character.|||A hero graveyard .. sounds appropriate. Don't forget the statues :)|||K status too
it'll be almost like a memorial for dead HCs

|||A graveyard for dead characters? This, I think, is a brilliant idea, and should be easy enough to implement, although after some time (years), it could get pretty crowded. Perhaps the cemetery can be based upon accounts.
For example, even though its my own cemetery, my friends (with entirely different game accounts) must be able to visit it at will. And maybe even have some facility where "living" characters can place a memorial flower or something?|||

?

A level threshold to get in would be better so only hardcore characters that reached level 50+ would be immortalized in the graveyard, could have a stone version of the character in the equipment that they died in too. All other deaths had there bodies eaten by whatever killed them! (unless it was a trapped chest as that would be silly!)|||

Probably died to a Quillrat, N00B :P j/k
But it should say what killed ya imo.|||

that would be to much information. Maybe of just the top 10-100 Hard core characters that lasted the longest, and the highest level. Just so that those few have bragging rights.|||Far too many people for this to be possible.

From a lore standpoint, it would be odd for these people to have graves inside the game, yet all they had done is erased and undone.|||I approve.
However, I think it should be account based, otherwise it would be ridiculous to try and navigate thousands of dead characters to try and find one of yours or a friends.|||I like the idea. But as someone stated earlier, it would be really crowded as the game goes on.
If blizz can find a way to make it so you can only see people on your friends list maybe, to thin the numbers down, and then another section showing maybe the top levels on the realm?|||Truly an epic idea! I love it!
Although, I can see the size of the "Graveyard" after a couple years being an issue, maybe there should be some kind of limit placed on it?
Maybe say, you have to make it to atleast level 50 to be placed in a certain graveyard?
Maybe those that make it to the higher levels of HC would be glorified in a more upscale graveyard complete with a bigger headstone and a short player defined biography?
That would be awesome if I had a level 99 HC Character that I became bored with, I could let him die honorably on the battlefield and placed to rest forever enshrined in his glory!!
Thumbs way up for me!

Yes, I too think it should be account based to limit the size and also to make it more personal. Personally, I'd like to see every single one of my dead HC characters in the grave yard, as well as my friends'. To make it a little more visual, perhaps there could be different tiers (oh God, over complication here we come) of graves based on the level you achieved:
Levels 1-10 would have a basic plaque laid in the ground w/ Name, level, DOB-DOD, monster/player name of who killed them.
Levels 11-20 would have a simple grave stone w/ the same details as the plaques.
Levels 21-30 would have a more elegant grave stone, perhaps even themed w/ the character class. Details include Name, level, class, DOB-DOD and name of the monster/player that killed them.
Levels 31-40 would have a raised grave stone, based on character class and gender. Details would be the same as the elegant grave stones.
Levels 41-50 would feature a statue of the character's class (and gender) in an idle stance. Details include the same as the elegant grave stones and raised grave stones, but also include a sentence that you wrote upon or shortly before their death (their last words, lol).
Levels 51-60 would be awarded a small mausoleum with the character posed atop it in a battle stance. Details are the same as the statue grave stones, but maybe also including a short description of their death based on what killed them. For example, I die from an oblivion knight at level 59 and so the short description would feature the oblivion knight, maybe even the attack that killed the character.
Of course this could all add up pretty easily in terms of time required to make it happen, but I think it'd be worth it.|||

I like this

|||I resurrected this post cause I still think its a good idea for HC|||How bout a secret cow level with random spawns of tons of dead HC characters as ghosts...oOOoooOOOO|||I really like this idea. It would make playing HC less daunting when you can always refer to your history of lost characters, and will be something amusing to look at when viewing people's B.NET profiles. Hopefully Blizz considers it.
