Q u o t e:
but then you will outlevel inferno making it useless
Did this guy post without even reading the thread? On one level I'm shocked...on another level I'm really not shocked at all.
Really like the idea. I really like this idea and I have a suggestion that fits in really close.
Have a character option you can select that makes your character from its birth at lvl 1 level at 1/10th the rate of normal characters.
Your character would exist alongside everyone else, and be exactly the same except you would level a lot slower.
You would get a banner, a unique title, and maybe a different stance in the chatroom if they have that sort of thing just like hardcore characters....and if your really nuts you'll make one of these slow grinders in hardcore mode!!
You'd get like double banners and a double cool name enhancement or whatever etc.
But at the end of the day your character would be the same except a grinder:
Here are the pros:
1. It won't cause all the anti-grinder, haters, and noobs to complain because your higher level than them....for the most part you would be LOWER level than them....so the people who don't get it could actually feel good about themselves, they would be like, "Ha, look at that noob he did twice as many runs as me and I am already double his level!! HAHA I PWN!"
Not only would it not annoy idiots, newbs, and haters, they could even feel good at our expense!
2. Only those who want to punish themselves would do it. No one would be forced into it.
3. It wouldn't cause a splinter of the game. Since these characters would join and play in the same games as normal characters it isn't like a certain population wouldn't be allowed to trade play or generally do things with everyone else if they so chose.
4. You don't level past 60. For some reason there are those who have clung onto this notion of not going past 60 with zombie like dedication, no matter how good your arguments or how un-important your additional levels are (this post proposed allowing more levels with no additional stats or skill bonuses of any kind yet we see a token ignorant post of "NO YOU CANT GO PAST 60 you will outlevel the content!!!!"
This is a work around that won't hopefully offend the anti-past 60 crowd, while meeting the needs of the grinder community...its not perfect...but nothing is perfect. This seems like a reasonable compromise...let the grinders have their fun and give them a banner or a highlighted name, that's all, they will even accept the handicap for the fun of it. I guarantee it.
|||Why you gotta go all infinite on us?|||

Why you gotta go all infinite on us?
because its diffrent than what everyone else is doing........because its another reason to play the game and enjoy it.............im not soo much for the steep curve idea tho...like i said ..its only when it takes a long time between lvls is when it starts to feel like a grind ..i dont know how people are not understanding this part......i meen we shouldnt lvl up every 10 min but i also dont think you should be stuck at a lvl grinding for days....feels good to hit that next lvl..why take that feeling away from your players......
the awww 60 is enough crowd are not saying why infinate lvls is a bad idea there just like 60 is enough...i wanna hear from thos people and tell me why infinate is bad....im not trolling i really wanna know?|||What the hell kind of character would you balance for in inferno? The maximum reasonably expectable output of a level 60 character, or of a level 200 character? How would arena treat it? Would there be gear with a level requirement above 60? What do you do when your character just totally outdoes everything in the entire game, to the point where it's not even vaguely threatening? Naw. Letting characters who go past 60 become orders of magnitude more powerful and outdo virtually all the game content would just be silly.|||Ok, the op sugested you stop gaining any bonuses after 60. Which looks great on the surface. I actually played a game like this where at level 240 you could complete the "Trial of Abraces" and if you survived you would be level 61:241. You never got to 241 but you could level the hell out of the 61 part.
Anyway, here's the problem. EXPANSIONS. When the level cap is raised to 70, and your level 39953945954954993949
any number past 60 =60 doest seem like very much work to make something as simple as this
easy math
A. going from lvl 1 to 100 one weeks time
B .going from lvl 1 to 60 one weeks time
which of these 2 is the grind?
and when your standing around and everyone is lvl 60 it looks cookie cutter i wanna see some 48's some 90's some 175's and think omg this game is truely one of a kind and it will be : )|||

no need to rasie the lvl cap with expansion if thers no cap : )
new items will be generated with lvl requirements of the matching cap (70 if you will)
if they want to increase the monster lvl through new acts they can just give us more quest earning the eqivilant in stat points and bonus skills these are very easy solutions....but yea id still like to hear why its a bad idea : )|||

And my solution does not suffer from any of these stated problems
/thanks :)|||I do like the idea of post-60 experience-based cosmetic benefits, but I don't think a higher level # is the best way to do it. The obvious draw to a higher level # (in Diablo 2 at least) is that people always see it when partying up, so whatever they do should be similarly prominent. I'd prefer they attach it to the achievements system, but that would definately require some work on Blizzard's part to make achievements "balanced" so that people don't inflate their scores with easy ones, and they would also have to have plenty of difficult/time-consu

it makes new problems the main problem is no matter how much you punish your self....you getting a banner/anything for working harder there going to cry saying it aint fair///its a bad idea because they didnt wanna half to do the work same people thats probly against infinate lvls i was trying to keep it simple with like a vitural number lvl...heck im with ya id like extra goodies(im sure acheivments might give me my fix on that other stuff0....i just love hitting that next lvl...how boring would the world be if we could only count to 60|||

Granted any achievement, extra visual bonus you get for doing something will cause jealousy with those who want it but don't want to work for it. However that is inherent in any solution to the lack of a grinding option problem. I.E. any solution you propose will have that problem. However, my solution is elegant in that it doesn't have any other problems.
Dare I say most gamers would understand/appreciat
On the other hand those who enjoy this sort of thing will have fun and enjoy being able to recognize others within this sub-community.
On its face it may seem more complex, but it is actually a very very simple solution and fairly strait forward.|||ya but working 10 times harder and taking 10 time longer to get...(sounds like acheivments to me) i think thats covered i think this was more a thread about why not have infinate lvls lets recap
1.more lvls more often...you get nice warm feeling more often why stop at 60?
2.your getting nothing from it but a number...keeps haters from hatin...ya right lol
3. there still able to rasie the cap of monsters and items....nobodies loosing out
4.cool factor....nobody else has the balls to try it
5.infinate lvls does not have to meen grinding....your only grinding as much as the lvling curve
idk guys its all in fun and wishful thinking i just not really seeing a downside to infinate lvlvs|||

When the expansion comes out and players can level from 60-70 and gain stats/attributes and you are level 214? Someone raised that question...which I hadn't thought of but is a legit point.
Also "achievement"
Really its a question of what did you accomplish, how important or difficult was it, and how should it be represented.
In WoW there are tons of things people get achievements for that get filed away in their character stats that no one looks at or cares about, and 90% of the achievements are so easy they make a lot of the actual meaningful achievements seem pretty meaningless.
What your proposing is players continue to level. They put in work. The reward they get is others can see at a glance that they worked harder than most at grinding monster experience. That is represented by people being able to see your level.
What I'm proposing is that you put in work. The reward is others can see at a glance via, title, character stance, name faunt or whatever that you worked or are currently trying to work harder than most and grinding monster experience. It is represented by a banner or a name faunt etc.
The only difference is with my system everyone sees what you are doing and recognizes your accomplishment via a more subtle visual than a level. However it would be visible at a glance.
The downside is there would still be a cap at 60 so it wouldn't go on forever. The upside is at least this is theoretically possible...there is so much anti past 60 concern at this point that it just wouldn't ever pick up any support in this game.
Not to mention it might cause problems as expansions come out and the hard cap of 60 goes up to 70 and later 80 on the second expansion.|||

yea what he said : )
i think i allready covered how new lvl caps could be addressed lol
on a side note i would like to see a toggle for inherant glow of toon....something like you get X amout to glow for ???? per lvl or act mabe they already got something like that who knows..........|||Infinite levels not, but it would be good if there is no experience cap, so that there could be some pve ladder based on it.
