I know it's unlikely to switch them out during combat but will we be able to switch to different skills at any time and/or any situation?|||In town, from what I hear.|||you should not be able to swap skills or you should have to pay (gold) to swap out skills. Say I run into a monster that is highly resistant to my attacks, I can just run away from it, take a WP back to town, swap a skill, and go back and kill it?.....
wow that's a real fun strategy|||i think you will be able to switch even in combat, kinda like how you switched weapon sets in d2, it would add to the strategy of the game if you could have 2 or 3 different builds for the same char.|||

but that then takes away replayability from that character, the only reason to start over is if you wanna change the sex|||
I don't believe they intend for their to be monsters that are just straight up not reasonably within your power to kill because you chose the wrong skills. So this particular argument is kind of irrelevant.|||From what I understood while listening to an interview, you could switch out your active/passive skills at anytime, but the UI looked to cumbersome to be messing with during combat, but I got the feeling that with the current set up you could run into a monster that you might have a really hard time killing with your skill set (but not impossible since they removed immunities) run away till they stop giving chase, change your skills, run in and mop the floor with 'em.|||

Why? Because YOU said so?
What is the alternative? Get 'rushed for forge' without playing your character because your skills suck until level 30? What if your new to the game, and don't know what skills complement your play style? You should just say 'Oh @@@%en well, I guess I need to just level up to 60 again'.
No thanks. I am glad a company is thinking of their customers ENJOYMENT for once, and not doing everything they can think of to make it WORK and suffering.|||

then why give us 6 skill slots why not just let us run around using every skill the character has|||I am also very curious as to if/how they intend to limit or restrict skill swapping.|||with the skill and rune custmizations only having 2-3 builds for one char shouldnt hurt the replay value that much, but i also think replay value will be the random quests even if it means 10-15 save and exits to get it lol. d1 poisoned well :)
|||Last we heard about skill swapping, was when Bashiok said that at the moment you are able to freely swap them at any time, in or out of combat.
So for now, there is absolutely nothing preventing you to using all 24-30 skills that you have at your disposal (even against an act boss). All it takes is to open a skill tree, remove one skill and insert the other, which a pro will be able to do in a few dozen hundreds of a second.
Example: precombat use all your buff skills, quickly switch to your debuff skills, then open combat with skills that cause -% of monster hp- damage, and then finish off with -max dmg / resource point- skills, all while keeping your support skills readily available at all times.
Of course they don't like that idea, so they are looking for a way to change it, but haven't told us yet how.|||they should just set it up like WoW and have an a$$ load of skill slots at the bottom of the screen so we can have all our skills there, ready to go|||

how does adding gold to it add strategy?

And ruin class or role specialization?
Sounds great man.
In WoW the talents decided what skills you used.
Here you got limits on how many you can use. so you have to tailor it.|||

I was being sarcastic
I dont agree with skill swapping because then there is no point in having 6 skill slots
I wanna be able to say "I'm a elementalist Wizard" or "I'm a battle mage" not "I'm just a Wizard that uses ever skill I have cause I can swap whenever I want"|||It seems like there would have to be some type of penalty to just switch when ever. I guess one thing that might prevent someone from just switching is runes. If you can't just remove a rune from a skill, then that new skill might not be nearly as powerful. This is also assuming that runes can only be placed in active skills.|||

you can...
Pick 6 battle mage skills and you are a battle mage. simple.
If I can give my character spicific roles, why can't you?
just because you CAN change does that mean that's all you will do so you can use all skills?
@##@ no...
I will make my own character.|||

I know that and thats how I will play, but just having the option to swap cheapens that game for me
